Grief Support

Caring for People Who Grieve

Grief support has always been a central concern for the staff of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes. Since 1916 our firm has continued to provide care beyond the funeral to bereaved people in the community.

Counseling services and information on bereavement are provided free of charge. A professional counselor is available to meet with people individually and to facilitate a variety of grief support groups.

Grief Recovery Support Groups will be meeting at First Broad Street United Methodist Church each Tuesday from  July 20th through August 24th. There are two groups: one meets from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and is facilitated by Mrs. Ann VanDevate, a professional grief counselor, and the other meets from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon and is facilitated by Dr. John N. Wilson, Hospice Chaplain. This ministry is in collaboration with the Forever Young Ministry at First Broad Street United Methodist Church (where the meetings are held).  There is no cost to the participants and the sessions are open to the community. To register, please call John Wilson at 423-224-1546.

A library of books, tapes, and videos is also available for loan to the community.

If you wish to learn more about Hamlett-Dobson's grief resources, then please call us at (423) 378-3134 or contact us via e-mail by using the Contact Us feature of this web site.
