Billy J. Compton, 71, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Billy was born on July 20, 1943 in Greene County and lived in Sullivan County most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rome and Minnie Compton, son, Scotty Compton, and several brothers and sisters.
Billy is survived by his son, Leslie Compton; two daughters, Sheryl Peters and Tracy Cavin; several grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Blankenbeckler, Ina Goforth and husband, Bobby, Janice Hicks and husband, Harold, and Martha Davis; and sister-in-law, Bernice Compton.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Roger (Pete) Smith officiating. Music will be provided by Mary Bullen and Tenida Thomason.
The graveside service will be conducted on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
