Catherine Bettis Flenniken

Catherine Bettis Flenniken, 94, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at her home.

She was born and reared in Greenville, SC, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Dee Bettis.

Mrs. Flenniken graduated from Winthrop College and earned a graduate degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She made her home in Knoxville until 1986, at which time she moved to Kingsport. She was an ordained elder and an active member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Flenniken was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Hector Flenniken; her daughter, Miss Louise Flenniken; sister-in-law, Mrs. Peggy Bettis; brother-in-law, Mr. Mike Piazza; and niece, Mrs. Cathy Piazza Liley (Brian).

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Louise Bettis Piazza of Kingsport; her brother, Mr. Marvin Bettis of Spartanburg, SC; niece, Ms. Mary Lee Cantey, Spartanburg, SC; nephews, Mr. Andy Piazza, Mr. Matt Piazza (Tara), Mr. Chuck Bettis; Mr. Henry Geiger (Betty Ann), and Mr. Brian Liley.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Dan Clark officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
