Danniel Alexander Danko

Daniel Alexander Danko passed away peacefully Friday, October 24, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. Danny was born April 3, 1949 in Bluefield, West Virginia to John and Helen Danko, grew up in Pocohantas, Virginia. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Pocohantas, Virginia where he served as an altar boy.

Danny attended Ferrum Junior College and was a member of the 1968 National Championship Football Team. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Ferrum College in 2006.

After graduating from ETSU, Danny was employed with various jobs before starting his own business and then began working in Scott County, VA, where he was the Executive Director of Scott County Public Service Authority. He worked tirelessly to provide water and sewer services for Scott County.

His parents, John and Helen Danko, and his brother, Edward Danko, preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Danko; sons, Robert Kirtz and wife, Emily of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Thomas Kirtz and wife, Marcie of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Ivy Paige Kirtz, Zachary Kirtz, and Sullevan Kirtz; brothers, John Danko of Church Hill, TN, Michael Danko and wife, Landi of Rocky Gap, VA, and Donald Danko and wife, Linda of Richmond, KY; sisters-in-law, Ina Danko and Patty Danko; mother-in-law, Jewell Brooks and husband, Eugene; brother-in-law, Michael Thomas and fiancée, Madre Forsha; several nieces and nephews; co-workers, Melinda Earwood, Jessica Grindstaff, Darrien Musick, Kevin Southerland and all other employees of Scott County Public Service Authority; numerous friends; and last, but not least, his special companion, his dog, "Trotter"

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 1, 2014, from 2-3:30 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Celebration of Danny's Life will follow with Father Mike Cummins officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends and all members of the 1968 National Football Team.

Danny was well respected and loved by all who knew him. He will be forever missed, but will live in our hearts forever.

Danny shared the gift of life by being an organ donor.
