Jamie G. Lay

Jamie Gillenwater Lay, 95, of Kingsport died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Asbury Center at Baysmont after an extended illness.

Born in Scott County, VA on April 15, 1919 she had resided in Kingsport since 1925. Jamie was a member of the 1936 graduating class of Dobyns-Bennett High School and received her Bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University in the graduating class of 1939. After teaching the second grade at Washington School in Kingsport for 33 years, she retired in 1981.

A member of First Baptist Church since 1944, Jamie was also a member of the Hannah Sunday School Class for many years.

She was the daughter of the late Roy and Beulah (Flanary) Gillenwater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Elery A. Lay (1991).

Survivors include several cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday at 3 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Ron Davis officiating.
