Logan Roy Everett Johnson

Logan Roy Everett Johnson, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2014. Logan was born in Blackwater, Virginia and lived there on the Johnson farm until his marriage to Dovie Bledsoe in 1942. Logan was the last of Ollie (Livingston) and Davey Johnson's children having been preceded in death by an infant sister and precious brothers, Lloyd, Elmo and Francis.

Logan graduated from Blackwater High School as Valedictorian of his class in 1938. Shortly thereafter he joined the army to serve his country from 1941-1944. He was assigned to the Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and was later stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii where he helped maintain all types of bombers including the Enola Gay, the bomber that carried the first atomic bomb.

He was a talented carpenter, building homes during the fifties and sixties in the Kingsport/Blountville areas. He and his brother, Lloyd built houses together for people who had heard of their skilled work. Sometimes they built someone's dream home from a sketch on a brown paper bag.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Fred Martin, and Phyllis and Richard Venable; grandsons and wives, Tyler and Angela Venable, and Wesley and Hope Venable; and most precious great-grandson, Joseph Logan Venable, all of Kingsport.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2:45 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee Army National Guard.

A memorial service will follow at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Susan Lankford officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Venable, Tyler Venable, Joseph Logan Venable, Larry Johnson and Carroll Johnson.

The family would like to thank the Wexford House staff for the loving care they gave Logan in his final days.
