Ruth Hamm

Anna Ruth Hamm, 91 of Kingsport went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Ruth was born and raised in Banner, Virginia and lived most of her life in Kingsport. She worked at Eastman in her early years and later for Sullivan County School system in the cafeteria at Sullivan Elementary.

She was a member of Reservoir Road Baptist Church; she devoted her life to Jesus and loved her church and seldom missed a service until her health failed in later years. She taught Sunday School and loved to sing in the church choir and sang in quartets for many years.

Ruth was a regular at the Kingsport Senior Center for several years, where she made numerous friends, went on several trips and worked with baskets and ceramics. She was part of the Happy Day Singers at the Senior Center. Many thanks to all who helped her at the Kingsport Senior Center in the last year or two she went there when her health was failing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Hamm, her mother and father Gertie and Charles Couch, 4 sisters, 10 brothers and a granddaughter Tracie Tipton.

Surviving include her daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Kenneth Horne of Kingsport and Freda and Bill Tipton of Lawton OK; son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Sharon Hamm of Louisville KY; grandchildren, Jason Hamm and wife Hilary, Michael Horne and wife Jennifer, Susan East and husband Matt, Ben Tipton and David Tipton and wife Tina; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff of the 200 wing of Wexford House and to Amedisys for their loving and compassionate care. Thank you also to Preston Place, and Villages of Allendale for providing her short term care when we needed them.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Keith Smith officiating.
