Glen Wood Painter, born October 7, 1948, died Saturday, November 23, 2019 in Kingsport, TN. He was the son of Edwin Sidney and Helen Bruce Painter and the grandson of Glen and Helen Preston Bruce of Kingsport and Charles and Mary Sue Wood Painter of Pulaski, Virginia. Glen lived all of his life in Kingsport in his beloved Fairacres neighborhood until recent years in assisted living at Steadman Hill.
He was the ultimate “good neighbor” in the best sense of the word as he made his daily rounds on his bike. After short visits with his many friends, he would pedal on to the next neighbor to say hello and chat a minute or two, then on again. He spread good humor wherever he went and received much love and kindness in return. If a new neighbor moved in, he would often be the “welcome wagon-bike” to greet them and introduce himself by extending his hand in friendship. He will be sorely missed by all the friends he leaves behind.
Glen is survived by his brother, Edwin Sidney Painter Jr. and wife, Kay of Calhoun, GA; sister, Carol Painter Stevens, widow of Robert Stevens Jr. of Greensboro, NC; nieces, Beth Holcomb (Greg), Cathy Dykes (Eric), Sydney Butler (Kevin), Sarah Stevens and Anne Stevens; great-nephew, Riley Butler- and great-nieces, Emerson Butler, Kate Holcomb, Makayla Dykes, and Rory Stevens.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 10:45 am with Dr. William Mc. Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
