Janice Baines, 71, of Johnson City, passed away at Franklin Woods Hospital on Saturday, January 4, 2020 following a period of declining health. Born in Washington County, TN on November 6, 1948, a daughter of the late Marcell and Ruth Ryans Gregg, she had resided in this area her entire life. She was a dietician for Washington County School. Janice will be remembered as a loving and devoted mom, mamaw, mammy, sister and friends who loved socializing with her friends at Watauga Square.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Cecil Gregg; John H. Baines; and the father of her children, John M. Sherfey.
Janice is survived by 3 daughters, Tarina Sherfey of Limestone, Rhonda Underwood of Hawkins County, and Renee Oaks of Fall Branch; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Ruby Casey of Jonesborough, Fannie Compton of Jonesborough, Linda Milam and husband, Steve of Jonesborough, Darlene Wallen and husband, Jack of Church Hill, and Melissa Dockery of Kingsport; 3 brothers, Ed Gregg and wife, Joyce, Bob Gregg and wife, Sue, and Larry Gregg and wife Sandy, all of Jonesborough; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Myra and Carolyn at Watauga Square Apartments.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Eddie McAmis officiating.
Burial will follow committal services at 1:00 pm on Thursday at Bacon-Kincheloe Cemetery. Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 12:00 pm on Thursday and then proceed to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Johnathon Underwood, Joshua Sherfey, Casey Underwood, Charlie Miller, Adam Massengill, Mike Compton, Danny Compton and Craig Carroll.
