Our Beloved Aunt
Jeanette Penley, 91, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, November 26, 2019. She passed at her family home of 77 years. Born in Kingsport in 1928, she was the youngest of Rufus and Stella Penley. Our beloved Aunt Jeet had sixteen nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. Her parents, her sisters Georgia Marie Penley and Dolphine Lyon, and brothers Luther and Mitchell Penley, preceded her in death.
Jeanette attended Bell Ridge Elementary School and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1947. She was a lifetime member of Morrison City Christian Church. In 1948 she began work at the Eastman Lab and retired from there 39 years later.
Jeanette looked for the goodness in people and beautiful things in life. She had a generous spirit, and her quiet generosity saw many friends and family members through a rough patch. Aunt Jeet loved to travel, read, bake, knit, and to go bowling and fishing. When passionate about something, she was a perfectionist.
More than anything, she honored, inspired and loved her family. Her high expectations helped raise sixteen nieces and nephews. She was proud when we thrived and ached with us when we hurt, and was always on our side.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law June Penley and her nieces: Reta (Don) Cooper, Claudi Lyon, Lyla (Warren) Anderson, Cindy (Don) Fluce, Jennifer Penley, Jill Penley, Julia (George) Williamson, Karen Penley, and Michelle (David) Kennedy. She had several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Morrison City Christian Church, 1940 Darnell Street, Kingsport, TN 37665.
