Wanda Baxter

June 6, 1932 ~ March 13, 2019 (age 86)

Wanda Baxter, 86, Fall Branch, went home to the loving arms of her personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 13, 2019. She was a homemaker until her children were raised and then she worked outside the home as a housekeeper for many years. Wanda was a member of Bethel United Baptist Church.  She had graduated as class salutatorian in 1950 from Fall Branch High School.  Wanda was an excellent cook and was well known for her famous coconut cream pie. She had a kind and loving heart and enjoyed spending time with her family and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Baxter; grandson, Daniel Baxter; parents, Denver and Cleatis Pierce; and brother, Bobby Pierce.

Wanda is survived by her 5 daughters, Kathy Shipley and husband, Donald; Carolyn Patterson and husband, Harry; Judy Whittington and husband, John; Teresa Sawyer and husband, Tom; and Tammy Brown; 2 sons, Jackie Baxter and Ricky Baxter; 9 grandchildren, David Baxter, Joshua Baxter, Anthony Hunt, Ashley Barton, Shannon Hunt, Christina Baxter, Jeremy Patterson, Jordan Whittington and Joseph Baxter; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Taylor and husband, Wayne; 2 sisters-in-law, Shelby Cox and Loretta Pierce; brother-in-law, Chad Baxter; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. David Franzus and staff and also to the staff at Wexford House for the kind and loving care that was given.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Mike Robinson and Pastor Russell Ferguson officiating.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Lovelace Missionary Baptist Church.  Pallbearers will be Jeremy Patterson, Jordan Whittington, Donald Shipley, John Whittington, Joshua Baxter, Anthony Hunt and Shannon Hunt.  Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Patterson, Joseph Baxter and Tom Sawyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethel United Baptist Church Food Pantry, 431 Hilton Hill Rd., Kingsport, TN 37663.
