William (Bill) Clevenger, 82, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2019 after a brief illness. Born in Nashville, TN he resided in Kingsport most of his life. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 1996 as a Chemical Engineer. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Church Circle, Kingsport.
He is preceded in death by his parents, August Clevenger and Cory Wicks Clevenger.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Wallace Clevenger; daughter, Julie Johnson and husband Gary of Kingsport, TN; sons, David Clevenger and wife Nancy, of Jonesborough, TN; Andy Clevenger and wife Choon of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Throp and husband Josef of Kingsport, TN; Hannah Vitt and husband Gabe of Asheville, NC; and Lucas Clevenger of Nashville, TN; great-grandson Jackson Throp of Kingsport, TN; brother, Steve Clevenger and wife Nanette of Palm Desert, CA; along with several nieces.
Family will receive friends Monday, August 26th from 3-5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Church Circle, Kingsport, TN. The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. The burial will be on Tuesday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brother, Steve Clevenger; and his longtime friends, John Cameron, Jerry Deel, Jim Stout, Charles Harris, and Bill McSpadden.
