Gene Conkin

Gene Conkin, 88, of the Blairs Gap Community, died Saturday, October 20, 2018, at his home with family by his side. He was the son of Charlie and Bessie Conkin. Gene was a retired trac drill operator, having worked for Wayne Construction, Fraley Construction, Riggs Brothers Construction, Lawson Construction, and Pave Well Construction.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Almeda, in 1984; parents, Charlie and Bessie Conkin; his brothers, Harland, Neil, Joe, Jack, Guy, and Fred; and sisters, Bonnie Ball and Stacy Mullenix.
Surviving are his sons, Randy (Debbie) Conkin and Chris (Trina) Conkin, of Rogersville; daughters, Dorothy (Jerry W.) Mullenix, Barbara Vanzant, of Kingsport, Janet Conkin, Patricia (Jeff) Morelock, and Lisa (Tim) English, of Fall Branch; grandchildren, Lindsay (Steven) Thomas of Kingsport, Ashley (SSGT Dave) Lindley of Oceanside, CA, Dawn York, Kings Mountain, SC, Shawn Mullenix, Littleton, CO, First Sgt U.S. Army Jason (Anna) Vanzant of Washington, Jonathan (Marie) Vanzant of Kingsport, David (Venus) Vanzant, Aurora, CO, Chris (Alesia) Vanzant, Florida, Jamie Painter of Gray, Stacy (Daniel) Davis of Fall Branch, Derick (Pollie) Morelock of Gray, Tabitha (Steven) Davidson, Blountville, Travis Conkin, Amanda Conkin, of Rogersville, Leland English, of Fall Branch, Austin Conkin and Tracy Benton of Rogersville; eleven great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren that he loved so much; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Mullins Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Conkin, Randy Conkin, Austin Conkin, Travis Conkin, Jeff Morelock, Derick Morelock, Jamie Painter, and Jon Vanzant.
