Laudie Burke

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Laudie Burke, 97, of Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Brookdale Rock Springs, following a brief illness. Born in Pike County, KY, on April 8, 1921, a daughter of the late James and Mary Mullins Wright, she has resided in this area since 1996, moving from Kentucky. She married William Roy Burke in 1939 in Myra, KY (Pike County, KY). She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted aunt, and friend, who loved to cook for family and friends, quilting, gardening (she loved her flowers). The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Brookdale and Amedysis Hospice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Burke; brothers, George Hassell, Grover Wright; sister, Draxie Short; and her dog, Cookie.

Laudie is survived by several nieces and nephews, Don and Martha Short and Wilma Bralley, being caretakers; and several great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Tim Jarrett officiating. Special music will be provided by Tyla Boyd.

Burial will follow at Holston View with Rev. Curt Williams officiating.

Pallbearers will be grand nephews.
