Betty Sue Murray

Betty Sue Murray, age 75, passed peacefully at home on January 23, 2026, with her loving husband by her side. She was the daughter of Ervin Ramey and Evelyn Peters and was a resident of Blountville, TN. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a supportive wife who sacrificially gave of herself to the success of her husband and family. Betty also worked in the school cafeteria of Washington County, VA for a number of years before her retirement.

Those preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Nancy Bright and Debbie Vanzant; and brother, Charles Ramey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 ½ years, Rufus Murray; daughters Sheryl Ponder (Mark), Tammy Denton (Kevin) and Susan Pridemore (Terry); ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Johnson; best friends, Connie Hensley and Drema LaForce; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Blountville, in the Garden of Prayer. Services will be officiated by Dr. Stan Anderson.

Pallbearers will be John Hill, Tanner Denton, Jordan Stamps, Austin Thompson, Tyler Thompson and Oliver Winningham.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kansas Winningham, Kevin Denton, Mark Ponder, & Terry Pridemore.

Special thanks should go to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their dedication and care, to her special doctor Abigail, FNP and nurse, Hunter with whom she had a special relationship; and, to special caregivers Joyce Powers, Tina Rhoton and Carolyn “Nana” Adams.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis TN 38105.
