Betty Hammond Nesaw, 90, of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, died on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Born April 30, 1935, in Gate City, Virginia, she grew up in Kingsport, TN, and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, Class of 1953. She worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Boyd. In later years, she worked in the medical field, specializing in thoracic and cardiovascular care. Betty and her husband lived in Woodbridge, VA, where they raised two sons. She was a full-time homemaker. After her husband's death in 1982, she made her home in Daytona Beach Shores, FL, in 1984. Betty’s hobbies through the years included tennis, golf, salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, and travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Lucille (Quillen) Hammond; brother, Bill Hammond; husband, Boyd Nesaw; and son, Dennis Nesaw.
Betty is survived by her beloved and caring companion of 29 years, Charles (Mike) Hasman; son, David Nesaw and wife Holly of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dennis (Donna) Nesaw of Harrisonburg, VA; grandsons, Nick and Jon Nesaw of Harrisonburg, VA; sister-in-law, Jan Hammond of Kingsport, TN; nephews, Brad (Gloria) and Bart (Julianne); great-nephews, Peyton, Carson, and Grayson; and niece, Eliza.
A very special thanks to Bill Bowling and Toni for their loving support through the years, and to her dear friend, Margaret Bedfort, for her love and friendship.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
