Brenda Caloway 81, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol. Born on February 17, 1945 she lived in this area all of her life. Brenda accepted the Lord at an early age at Belvue Christian Church, which she was proud to call her home church even after all these years. She loved taking care of her yard, watching sports and old movies especially John Wayne and Disney films. Her interest in the old ways and customs of the mountains since childhood led to an avid interest in the early history of Tennessee. This fascination led to the writing and publishing of a couple of books on the subject. She also had several poems published and was a freelance writer for several local publications over the years.
She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1963. She graduated from ETSU with an A.S. degree in law enforcement, and a B.S. degree with a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Calloway and Opal Bates, grandparents, Loyd and Dora Anderson and George and Hattie Calloway, several aunts, uncles and cousins, close friends Ruth Laws and Cheryl Hayes. She is survived by her goddaughter Tonya(Laws)Shockley, uncle Joel Calloway, several cousins and special friend/neighbor Allan Neece.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday August 8th at Holy Mountain Baptist Church, with visitation from 12-2 and services at 2pm.All are welcome and feel free to wear blue as it was her favorite color.
A special thanks to Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home for their care of Brenda Calloway. There will be no formal graveside service.
