Candy Jill (Lane) Walters, 76, of Church Hill, TN, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2026, peacefully at her home with her husband of 53 years, Richard, and daughter, Sha Moore, by her side.
Born in Kingsport, TN, to William “Bill” and Madge Lane, Candy was raised in Nickelsville, VA, and graduated from Nickelsville High School before relocating to Tennessee in 1972, where she and Richard raised their only daughter, Sha. In 2000 and 2002, Candy became “Mamaw” when her two grandchildren were born, whom she affectionately referred to as her “puddin’ cakes.” Candy worked at Mason Dixon in Kingsport and later retired from the Tennessee Environmental Office in Johnson City. She was a longtime member of Nickelsville Baptist Church and recently attended Ridgeview Baptist Church in Church Hill.
Candy was well known for having her “go britches” on, having visited all 50 states and even making her way to Ireland and Scotland. While she loved traveling, it was apparent that her favorite place was right here with her people. Candy’s world revolved around her family, always putting them before everything else without a second thought. She never missed one of her grandchildren’s sporting events, band competitions or concerts, and she never missed a Monday night dinner, which she cooked for her family every week for more than 15 years.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Lane Jr. and Iona Madge Compton Lane.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Walters; her daughter and son-in-law, Sha and Marty Moore; and her grandchildren, Meghan Moore and Matthew Moore. She is also survived by her brother, Gil Lane.
Candy’s family would also like to express sincere gratitude for the care and compassion shown by Amanda of Amedisys Hospice during this chapter of her life.
A private family ceremony has been held.
