Carol Sue "Potter" Huskins

Carol Sue "Potter" Huskins of Kingsport died on July 23, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. She is no longer with us, but she is back home with God where she always wanted to be. Born on August 6, 1943, in Elizabethton, she was the daughter of Lloyd Raymond and Rosa Lee Farris Potter. She graduated from Happy Valley High School, and from Holston Valley Hospital Radiologic Technology School. In 1964, she married Dennis Kelly Huskins, her friend since first grade. She worked for many years as an x-ray tech in Bristol and in Kingsport at Associated Orthopaedics and other medical offices. She took time out from work for six years until she could teach her boys how to eat with a spoon.”

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Bob Potter and her sister, Shirley Butler.

She is survived by her loving husband Dennis, who only needed to hear Carol mention that she was thinking about a possible home project, and he would make it happen, beautifully and professionally. He always knew that Carol wore one leg of the pants in their marriage. She is also survived by her sons Adam Huskins and wife Katie of Franklin, TN, and Steven Huskins and wife Laura of Greenville, SC. She was Nana to her beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Hailey, Sophie and Maddie, and she leaves her special nieces, Linda Wills and Kathy Huskins. Much loved by her friends, she leaves many who will deeply miss her and cherish her memory as a loyal, funny, curious, faithful, loving, kind and caring friend.

Carol was an active and faithful member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Abiding Friendship Circle and served in many other capacities. She was a charter member of the Little Book Club for 27 years and loved reading. She had served as president of Jaycettes in the past, and she lived out her Christian faith volunteering with a number of local groups including Meals on Wheels and Kitchen of Hope.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Carol’s Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Senior Pastor Tim Paul and Associate Pastor Michael Lester officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her memory to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
