Charles L. "Chuck" Necessary

Charles Leon “Chuck” Necessary, 83, of Blountville Tennessee passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.  

Charles was born in Washington, Co. Tennessee on December 29, 1939. Growing up in Blountville, Tennessee, he attended Central Heights Elementary, Blountville High School and Tri-Cities Tech. Charles joined the military to proudly serve his country on June 9, 1958, where he enlisted in the Navy and Coast guard. He retired on June 8, 1962, with the title of U.S Navy E-4.

During his career, Charles dutifully worked for several establishments such as Maryland Fried Chicken of Bristol, Eastman Kodak as a maintenance mechanic, and most recently, at Misty’s Florist as a delivery driver. He held lengthy employment until retiring from Eastman Kodak. After dedicating many years to the work force, he officially retired on July 1st of 2020. 

Charles was compassionate about his community and enjoyed contributing to several organizations. He was an official of Woodmen of the World Fraternal Lodge, holding the position of Fraternal President in Bristol, Virginia. Charles participated in the American Legion and was a lifetime member of DAV. Charles enjoyed UT football as an avid fan. He was musically involved and employed as a local radio personality for many years “Chuck Ness”, at WGOC Radio and was an announcer for the minor league, Bristol White Sox. 

He attended First Baptist Church of Blountville where he was a member for 57 years. As a man of God, he had many values that guided his life; In his own words he stated, “The good Lord and my wife, church and Sunday school, and my sweet mother”.

Charles was a well-known figure in his community who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of being a part of his life, especially his close friends and family; his memory will be kept alive by their love and memories of him. 

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Vivian Necessary and brother, Harold D. Necessary. 
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Donna Culbertson Necessary; sons, Chip and Chad Necessary; granddaughter, Brittany Mercer; grandson, Blake Necessary; Sister, Terri (Don) Neff; brother, Jack (Teresa) Necessary; sisters-in-law, Janis Necessary and Darlene Moody; brother-in-law, Byron (Dena) Culbertson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special daughters, Marla Odom, Mona Dotson and Kim Necessary. 

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 11:00am-1:00pm at First Baptist Church of Blountville with a service officiated by Pastor Clay Austion to follow. A committal service with military honors will be held following the funeral service at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Larry Necessary, Eddy Necessary, Jacob Bellamy, Dave Bellamy, Brandon Eanes and Jack Necessary.

Honorary Pallbearers with be Jim Leonard, Paul Leonard, Gary Newman, Men of First Baptist Church of Blountville, State line Band, Don Neff and Seth Necessary. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Blountville Building Fund.
