Charles David Swayze

Charles David Swayze, 88, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Born in Charlotte, NC, David grew up in Rural Retreat, VA and came to Kingsport in 1963. David was a project manager for Smith Mechanical until retirement. He then worked at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home until his health began to fail. David was in the Ruritan, served in volunteer fire department, Boy Scouts and was active at Bloomingdale Baptist Church.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Merle Swayze; son, Joey Swayze.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Ed Swayze and Jeff Swayze and wife, Angie; grandchildren, Dustin Swayze, Charleigh Jones and husband Tyler, Hannah Swayze and Caleb Swayze; great-grandchildren, Karleigh, Emma and Lillian.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Kindal Cochran and John Haben officiating.
