October 8, 1944 – October 21, 2026
Charlotte Arnall DeVault, 82, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at The Waters of Kingsport, surrounded by family.
Charlotte was born on October 8, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to David Linwood Arnall and Virginia Lamb Arnall. She grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky, where she graduated from Franklin County High School. As a young girl, she was involved in Girl Scouts for 11 years, beginning a lifelong love of involvement, service, and community.
Charlotte attended the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and graduated in 1966. Following graduation, she moved to Kingsport to begin her career with Tennessee Eastman Company. Kingsport would become her home for the rest of her life.
On August 23, 1969, Charlotte married David William DeVault. Together, they built a life in Kingsport and raised their two children, Craig and Janet. They were married for 47 years until David's passing.
Charlotte had a heart for serving others and was deeply involved in her community and church. She was an active member of the Junior League of Kingsport and a longtime, devoted member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport. Over the years, she served the church in countless ways. She was a member of the Joyful Ringers handbell group for 40 years, taught preschool choir for more than 40 years, and shared her love of music by playing piano for Sunday School classes and choirs. She also served on the Missions Committee and Scholarship Committee, was involved in Women’s Missionary Union, and helped start the church's Mother's Day Out program.
Her faith, music, and service were important parts of her life, but nothing meant more to Charlotte than her family. She loved being a mother and especially loved being a grandmother to Jack, Mark, Kate, and Macy. She also loved gardening, cheering on her beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats, and spending time with the people she loved.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, David William DeVault, and her parents, David Linwood Arnall and Virginia Lamb Arnall.
She is survived by her son, Craig DeVault and his wife, Heather, of Cary, North Carolina; her daughter, Janet Morgan and her husband, Jarett, of Knoxville, Tennessee; her four grandchildren, Jack and Mark DeVault and Kate and Macy Morgan; as well as cousins and close friends who became like family over the years.
Charlotte's life was one of faith, family, music, and service. The many years she spent teaching children, making music, serving her church and community, and loving her family leave a legacy that will continue through the many lives she touched.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church, Kingsport. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Kingsport, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
