Charlotte Parker Chew

Charlotte Parker Chew, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Asbury Place, Baysmont. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother dedicating most of her life to the family. Charlotte raised her children well and led Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, made most of her and the daughter's clothes, helped after the birth of grandchildren, and did all that a mother could to prepare her children for life. She was a Charter Member of Colonial Heights Christian Church and devoted much time to leading and serving groups such as the Women's Circles and Communion Committee. She made the communion bread for 18 years. She loved to travel and she and her husband visited all states of the U.S., all Provinces of Canada, and a number of countries in Europe, China, Australia, and New Zealand. Charlotte was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was born in College Park, Georgia, attended West Georgia College, and graduated from the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division. She was married in East Point, Georgia and lived most of her life after that in Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rubye and Taft Parker.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 62 years, Virgil Collins Chew; three children; son, David Parker Chew and wife Diann of Augusta, GA; daughters, Keron C. Privon and husband Chris of Boise, Idaho, and Carolyn C. Barry and husband Jud of Kingsport; grandchildren, Matthew Chew and wife Marianne, John Chew, Ted Chew, George Privon, Peter Privon and wife Katy, Chris Privon II and wife Mary Jane, Sam Barry and wife Marie, Emily Hutchins and husband Jon, and Alice Barry; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Colonial Heights Christian Church with Stan Leonard, minister and Phil Roberts, minister officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Heights Christian Church, 105 Meadow Lane, Kingsport, TN.
