Clara Jane Butcher

Clara Jane Butcher, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2025.

Jane was born on October 12, 1950, in Verbena, Alabama, to the late EV and Ruth Brindley. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Montevallo, graduating in 1973. Her professional career with Tennessee Eastman Co. led her to Kingsport, where she met and married the late Kendell Butcher.

Jane was a woman of exceptional talent and dedicated service. She was a renowned baker, whose beautiful and delicious birthday and wedding cakes, yeast rolls, and other sweet treats brought joy to countless people in the Tri-Cities area.

Her commitment to her community was profound. Jane spent many years volunteering with Meals on Wheels, cooking delicious food for those in need in the Colonial Heights community as well as dedicating her time and talents cooking the always popular Wednesday night suppers at Colonial Heights Baptist Church where she was a longtime member. Her cooking was cherished by all who knew "Ms. Jane." In addition to her culinary passions, she found great pleasure in gardening, tending to her flowers and yard, and treasured her time teaching the widows Sunday School Class at Colonial Heights Baptist.

She is survived by her loving family: son Scott and his wife Emily of Clarksville, TN; grandson Kendell Blake and granddaughter Kathleen Blair; sister Sandra England of Fuquay Varina, NC; stepson David Butcher and his wife Harumi of Maryville, TN; stepdaughter Rebecca Burks of Jefferson City, TN and step-grandson Taylor Burks of Knoxville, TN.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff at The Blake at Kingsport and to the compassionate caregivers at Brighter Days Home Healthcare, especially Marcella, Darsula, and MariLou, for their wonderful care over the last 4 years.

A private service will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Meals on Wheels of Kingsport, P.O. Box 3346 Kingsport, TN 37664.
