Danard Dolan Thomas

Danard “Dolan” Thomas, 92, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Dolan was born on April 1, 1934, in Lee County, Virginia, to the late Chess and Bonnie Thomas. He spent his childhood in Lee County and graduated from Keokee High School before making Blountville, Tennessee his lifelong home, while always holding a deep-seated love for his homeplace of Robbins Chapel.

A man of deep faith, Dolan was a devoted member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, where his love of the Lord and commitment to his church family were evident throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His life was a testament to hard work, kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Dolan dedicated his career to Eastman Chemical Company, where he faithfully worked until retiring in 1992. He also owned Greenwood Market in Indian Springs where he enjoyed serving his community.

Dolan shared 73 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Jerry Thomas. Together they built a family rooted in faith, love and lasting traditions that will continue to be cherished for generations.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jerry; his son, David Thomas and wife Robin; his daughter, Paula Andrews and husband Allan. He also leaves behind his sisters, Phyllis Rutledge (the late Ed Rutledge), Amanda Robinette and husband Hugh, and Sandra Kirk and husband JP.

Dolan was a proud grandfather to Stephanie McGaha and husband, Dan; Kelli Fletcher and husband, Wesley; Abbey Christian and husband, Matthew; and Caroline Andrews; great-grandchildren Maddie Bowen and husband Cody, Aidan McGaha, Emma Lawson, Levi Christian and Elizabeth Fletcher.

In addition to his immediate family, Dolan leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who were blessed by his kindness, humor and wisdom.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 1 at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Kingsport, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. with Dr. Bill Sims and Dr. David Luster officiating.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 3, at East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport.

Dolan’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.

More than anything, Dolan wanted his life to reflect his faith in Christ. His quiet strength, generous heart, and steadfast love for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the charity of their choice.
