Danny “Duck” Cleek, 78, of Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 10, 2026.
Danny called Kingsport home his entire life. He graduated from Sullivan West High School and spent his career as a maintenance mechanic, eventually retiring from Eastman Chemical Company. He poured decades of dedication into the Sullivan West Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a founding member and was serving as chairman of the board at the time of his passing—a role he took great pride in.
History was one of Danny’s favorite things, especially the Civil War, and he never missed a chance to talk about racing, particularly round‑track racing. He enjoyed the outdoors and had a genuine fondness for all little animals. Above all, he had an undeniable love for his family. Danny was preceded in death by his father, Harry “Hack” Cleek; mother, Margaret Cleek; wife, Sue Cleek; daughter, Dawn Cleek; and brother, John Cleek.
He is survived by his son, Andy Cleek; grandson, Cooper Cleek; and brother, Scott Cleek.
Honoring his wishes, Danny will be cremated, and no services will be held.
Memorial donations may be made to the Sullivan West Volunteer Fire Department.
