Darwin Ralph Gamble

We celebrate the life and homegoing of Darwin Ralph Gamble, Sr., a devoted gospel musician/singer/songwriter whose faith and musical talent left lasting memories on everyone blessed to know him. Ralph sang in gospel groups for many years, and most recently sang with his daughter Elizabeth. He would sing anywhere, even in restaurants, Dollywood, and hotels. He loved attending church at Bays Mountain Baptist where he played bass guitar. His favorite words to strangers were “Where do you go to church?” He touched many lives and worked to lead people to the Lord through conversations wherever he went. He loved to travel and to attend gospel music events.

Beyond his musical calling, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He poured the love of Jesus into every relationship, offering wisdom, understanding, and strength that made others feel safe and supported. His legacy is woven into the hearts of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends who all cherished him.

Ralph was a graduate of Sullivan High School and a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He retired from AEP.

We rejoice knowing that he has entered eternal rest, joining the heavenly choir where his praise continues. His life reminds us to serve with humility, love deeply, and let our gifts glorify God. He loved praising the Lord.

Ralph is survived by his family, who carry forward the faith, love, and musical legacy that he lived. He is resting in the arms of the Savior he sang about so faithfully for many years and may his music continue to echo in the lives of all who were touched by it.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Armina Neeley Gamble; sisters, Amanda Jane Vermillion and Ruth Gamble; brother, Joseph Gamble, and daughter Sandra Kerney.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Barbara Whitaker Gamble; daughters, Susan (Billy) Dishner, Aleta Gilbert, Kristen (D.J.) Rosenbalm, Julie (Pete) Horton, Elizabeth (Joe) Fralin; sons, Ralph (Meocha) Gamble, Jr. and Dustin (Jessica) Graham; and his much-loved cat, which was his baby; foster children, April, November, Nancy and Bill Barry; he is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loved deeply. He gave nicknames to some such as Little Duck, Jesse James, The Man, Pop’s Boy, Pop’s doll, Pop’s beautiful girls and My Pup. He is also survived by special nieces, Patsy Light and Clarissa Sykes; and nephews, Wesley Whitaker and Max Whitaker.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Bays Mountain Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Tim Nelson and Robert Francis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Military Honors by American Legion Posts 3/265.
