David Porter

David Porter, age 74, passed away on September 30, 2026, in Bristol, Tennessee, where he had made his home to be near his family.

Born and raised in Ithaca, New York, David spent much of his life in the community he loved. He worked as an event coordinator at Ithaca College for many years before eventually moving to Tennessee to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

David was a longtime fan of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. His love for both teams was passed down to his sons, Shawn, Cory, and Tracy, and eventually to his grandchildren. His sons looked up to their dad in many ways and will carry on the interests and traditions they shared with him.

Family was an important part of David’s life, and his legacy is reflected throughout the generations that follow him. Several members of his family proudly carry David as their middle name in honor of him.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Porter and her life partner, Hunna Johns; and his brother, Kenny Porter.

He is survived by his sons, Shawn Porter (Jayna), Cory Porter (Amanda), and Tracy Porter; his ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; Debbie Porter; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends during calling hours on Friday, October 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, New York.
