Dennis "Moose" McGhee

Dennis Glenn “Moose” McGhee, age 69, of Gray passed away suddenly on Friday July 4th, 2025. Dennis was a 1973 Daniel Boone High School graduate before beginning a 48-year career at Eastman Chemical Company. He completed the Apprenticeship Program and later received an Associates Degree from Northeast State Community College and moved into Team Management in Utilities Maintenance. He was an active long-term member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church.

Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Minnie Mae McGhee, his father and stepmother John B. and Mildred McGhee, and his son Terry Brown.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years Linda Cunningham McGhee; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Terry Elrod; grandsons Rylan Brown and wife Vayda, Ashton Brown; and great-granddaughter Carter Elaine Brown.

He is also survived by brothers John McGhee and wife Pauline, Ivan McGhee and wife Myra; nephews Jeremy McGhee and wife Valerie, Jason McGhee, Erick McGhee and wife Hannah; and niece Leigh Ann Schneider and husband Micheal.

Dennis was a hard worker and took great pride in the appearance of his lawn, maintaining his farm, and helping to take care of his church. He was a wonderful husband, father, and Pawpaw. He loved his family beyond measure and always made sure they knew it. His bear hugs were the best ever. Dennis always had a kind word and a smile. He lived a life of strong faith and showed it through his actions. He left a legacy of love and grace and will be truly missed.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Blountville, Tennessee. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Hal Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be John McGhee, Ivan McGhee, Erick McGhee and his longtime co-workers and friends Paul White, Randy Dishner, Richard Rigsby, Mike Franklin, Paul Bohon. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Bailey, Jim Harr, Tim Culberson, Brian Davis, Terry Jones, Ron Morrison, and Jim Greer.
