Dolores Jean Haynes Gott, 88, formerly of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2026, surrounded by loved ones in Hickory, North Carolina. She taught school for many years at Cedar Grove Elementary and Ketron Middle School. Dolores was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she served in numerous ways. She and her husband led Carpenter’s Helpers Furniture Ministry for ten years. Dolores had a heart for ministry, serving in Bible Study Fellowship and the Emmaus Walk. Family was the joy of her life, loving to spend weeks at a time with her grandchildren. A fabulous cook, her stacked strawberry shortcake was her signature dessert.
In addition to her parents, Aubon Haynes and Zella Spencer Haynes, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, P. Glenn Gott; brothers, Doug Haynes, Floyd Haynes, Claude Haynes; and sister, Maude Haynes.
Mrs. Gott is survived by her children; son, Steve Gott and wife Lavinia; daughter, Teresa Compton and husband John; daughter, Lori Starnes and husband Steven; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Oak Hill Memorial Park for family and friends. Dr. John Compton and Rev. Steve Gott will be officiating.
