Donald Keith Dikes

Donald Keith Dikes went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, following a year-long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away peacefully surrounded with love from his family.

Don was born in Harlan, Kentucky, on March 14, 1937, and had resided in this area since 1965. He was a devoted and loving husband and dad. He was kind-hearted, well respected; and his steadfast faith was an inspiration to all who knew him. His faith was never stronger than during this past year. Don was used by God to share his message with everyone he came into contact with during his illness.

He was a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and helping teach the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He retired from Holston Defense in 1994. He enjoyed taking bus tours; and no matter where he went, he never met a stranger. He was a big UK basketball fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Katie Dikes; sisters, Kathleen Dikes and Palestine Dean; brothers, Kurt Dikes and Preston Bud Dikes.

Surviving are his loving wife Judy Ketron Dikes; a daughter, Ramona Witzgall and husband, Gary of Nashville, TN; sisters, Jo Ruth Caldwell of Chicago, Illinois, and Gonzie Curren of Kissimmee, Florida; a brother, Bill Dikes of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his grand-dogs, Smokey and Pedro.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Scott Coen, Dr. John Ehrenfried, Dr. Jerry London, Mr. Manoel Moraes, and Dr. Douglas Springer and their staffs who cared for him and provided their medical knowledge and encouragement. Also, a thank you to the nurses on W3 and Loren Pierce and staff in Radiology at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. A special thank you to the Hospice nurses who have been caring for him. A heartfelt thanks to the many people and churches that have prayed for him. A very special thank you to Tommy Salyer for all he has done for him during his illness.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Homer Roller and Rev. Keith Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions designated in Don?s honor to Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church, 2019 Chapel Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665.
