Douglas Eugene Duncan

Douglas Eugene Duncan (1938-2024), 85, of Kingsport, TN died unexpectedly on January 14, 2024. Doug was born in Hiltons, VA in 1938 to Willard and Florence Duncan and was raised with siblings Joyce, Sue, and Lester in Hiltons and then in Kingsport. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1956 and briefly served in the Army at Fort Hood.

After returning from service, Doug began working at Eastman Kodak as a chemical operator, where he worked until his retirement at the end of 1993. After retirement, Doug and his son Jack started a landscaping business, the Lawn Rangers. Doug was still mowing lawns into his early 80’s.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Pat (Richardson); and his sisters, Joyce Wolfe and Sue Reed.

He is survived by his brother, Lester Duncan; daughters Cathy Brown (Steve), Angie Hyche (Eric); son, Jack Duncan; daughter-in-love, Rose Sorrell (Jerry); seven grandchildren, (Maggie, Lindsay, Emma, Lydia, Cira, Ethan, and Hannah); one great-grandchild, (Edie); many nieces and nephews; good friends, Doris Morton, former wife Judy Simpson; and best buddy, Jerry Baker.

Doug attended Harmony Baptist Church for many years and most recently attended Higher Ground Baptist Church. A few of his favorite things included his family, coffee, flea markets, westerns, old trucks, and telling stories. He was one of the most positive people you would ever meet and was always smiling.

Family and friends are invited to a drop-in Celebration of Life gathering at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home (117 E. Charlemont Ave. in Kingsport) on Saturday, January 20 from 2-4 pm. There will be a short informal service around 3:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to SMILE Foster Closet (smilefostercloset.org) would be appreciated. The family would like to thank Crown Cypress Assisted Living for their loving care.
