Dr. Lt. Col. Steve Jones

July 18, 1944 — September 2, 2018

Dr. Lt. Col. Steve Jones

It follows that as the sun sets (in the west) and the day ends with its setting, so too does a fallen pilot fly into the sunset of his days.
On Sunday, September 2, 2018, Harley Stephen Jones flew west toward the sunset after a fierce, short battle against ALS. Steve served in the U.S. Army, having completed a tour of duty in Korea, 2nd Division Artillery, and then in Vietnam as a Platoon Leader of the Cobra Platoon serving with C Troop 3/17 AIR CAV, which was later re-designated as D Troop 3/5 AIR CAV, troop name and call sign Charlie Horse Company. Steve was honorably discharged from active duty as a Captain in 1973 and remained in the reserves until his retirement as a Lt. Col. after 33 years. Steve was involved in many disciplines of work life, but he found his true calling in chiropractic care. He was also an active member of his Church Hill High School Class of '62, a member of The Quiet Birdmen, as well as the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae Jones.
Steve is survived by his two daughters, Pamela (Al) Bray and Cheryl (John) Lochart; five grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Jordan, Zachary and J.C.; forever friend, Patsy Brown; sister, Margaret(Tom) Kemp; brothers, Randy, Bruce (Mel), Bervin Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Jack Weikel officiating, and friends, Bill Halevy and Sammy Snapp. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to VHBM(www.vhbm.org ) 17355 Chatham Ct, Jeffersonton, VA 22724-2702 or VHPA(www.VHPA.org) 2100 N Highway 360, Ste 907, Grand Prairie, TX 75050.
Military Rites will be presented by American Legion Posts 3/265.
