Dwight Taylor

Dwight Taylor, 72, of Gate City, went to be with the Lord, Sunday November 2nd, 2025, following a short illness.

He was born and has lived in this area all of his life. He retired from J.P. Stevens after many years of service. He also worked for many years as a skilled carpenter/ handyman, using his hands to help others, always ready to do what he could to be of help, including at Wexford House and Brandy Mills, doing what he loved the most – maintenance.

Dwight attended Calvary Lighthouse Baptist Church. Dwight was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. If it is possible, Dwight’s absence will certainly be greater felt than his presence not only in the family, but the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Okie Taylor; one sister; six brothers; in-laws, Gene and Frances Todd; sister-in-law, Sonia Melissa Lane; and son-in-law, Don Castle.

Dwight is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Taylor; children, Tracey Taylor-Castle, Samuel Taylor (Keisha), and Tara Taylor Broadwater; grandchildren, Cody Collins, Mason Speaks, Braxton Taylor (Sierra), Jackson Broadwater, Abigail Taylor, Addison Broadwater, Madeline Taylor, and Brooke Taylor; sisters, Marjorie Thompson and Frances Depew; bonus grandchildren, Casey and Lane Castle; great-grandchildren, Elena and Miles Taylor; Sophie and Isaiah, whom he loved as grandchildren; and his beloved furry best friend, Brody.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. A funeral will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Randall Stapleton, Bro. Mark Todd and Pastor Bob Underwood officiating. Music by Michael Walker, and singers, Amy Thacker and Joy Smith.
