Earl Lloyd Hamly, Sr. passed from this earth, into the hands of his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 at his place of residence, Steadman Hills - Asbury Place.
Earl was the son of the late Ralph Edward and Omah Clawson Hamly. Born in Johnson City, TN, Earl had resided in Kingsport along with his family for the last 56 years.
A graduate of Science Hill High School, Earl was active in a number of different sports lettering in football, baseball, track and swimming. He continued with his love of sports for many years beyond high school participating in various city sports leagues long after moving to Kingsport.
Earl proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. After serving several years in both active duty and reserves, Earl had last worked as a machinist at the Kingsport Press in which he retired from in 1980.
Earl was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Jacqueline (Jackie) Kathrine Harwood Hamly who passed away in 2007 after 57 years of marriage. Additionally, he was preceded by a daughter-in-law, Diana Hamly and grandson-in-law, Jeremy Krajeck.
He is survived by his children, a daughter Vicki H. Hill and husband Bobby; three sons, Michael S. Hamly and wife Alethea, Lee Hamly and wife Pam, and Earl L. (Chuck) Hamly, Jr.
Additionally he is survived by the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren, Jessica Jones and husband Ben, Jana Pendleton and husband Mark, Jennifer Gilbertson and husband Kari, Crystal Krajeck, Chase Hamly and wife Lindsey and Tessa Palumbo and husband Anthony; as well as his great-grandchildren, Ashton Gilbertson, Brianna Jones, Chance Gilbertson, Marleigh Pendleton, Max Pendleton, Seth Krajeck and Dawson Palumbo. Earl also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the amazing staff and special care givers at Steadman Hills that have given so much of themselves in showing both love and compassion for our Dad over the past several years. We are so blessed to have had him in your care. You each held a very special place in Dad's heart and in ours as well and are appreciated far more than you may ever know.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joe Green officiating.
Inurnment will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens in Johnson City, TN.
