Edmond Hinkle

Edmond Hinkle, 82, went home to be with his Lord on July 12, 2026. Ed grew up in Hobart, Indiana and received a scholarship to the NROTC Program at the University of Missouri. Upon graduation, he chose the Marine Corps option and became a USMC Helicopter Pilot. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 where he was affectionately known as “Uncle Ed.” A member of the 3rd Marine Amphibious Force, he supported ground and air operations in Vietnam, as well as engaging in civic action programs.

After the Marine Corps, Ed began working on his master’s at the University of West Florida. He started with the City of Pensacola as an intern writing grants, worked in HR, became an auxiliary City Police Officer, and auxiliary Deputy Sheriff for Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, Airport Director, Deputy City Manager and retired from the City as City Manager. Ed regarded his career as an honor to serve his community, to ensure all employees were taken care of and the community remained safe. He always tried to help others in need. He found it a privilege to be able to ride and train with the PPD, Fire Department, and plan the Blue Angels Airshows each year on Pensacola Beach.

Upon retirement, he and his wife Lisa moved to East Tennessee. They enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling, time with family, and hiked many trails in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. Ed was a humble, generous, selfless man, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He believed we walk by faith not by sight. He approached every situation with his strong faith and quiet strength. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Hinkle; brother-in-law, Vincent Mash.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 40 years, Lisa; step-daughters, Stephanie and Christina Jandreau; sister, Mary Fredrickson (Rob); sisters-in-law, Gina Mash, Monica Williams; nephew, Ken Baxter (Mary); nieces, Sarah Larue (Bob), Jen Ewing (Mike); great-nephew, Russ Baxter; great-nieces, Jess Tamucci (Matt) and Birk Larue; to his special friends, Dave Robinson, Jim Henderson, Ed Clunk, Darrell Griffin, Pat Bettelli, and his brothers in Marine Helicopter Squadron HMH-462, Semper Fi.

A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Ed would simply ask that we love, respect and serve others unconditionally.
