Elizabeth Swallows

1936 – 2024

Beloved Wife; Honored Mother; Cherished Grandmother;

Treasured Great-Grandmother; Faithful Sister-in-Christ;

Victorious Woman of God

On May 21, 2024, while at home surrounded by her loving family, Mary Elizabeth Voss Swallows, better known as Liz, transitioned into glory to be with her Savior.

Liz was born in Columbia, TN on August 16, 1936, to Carl Washington Voss and Mary Kinzer Voss.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Helen Voss Shorten.

She is survived by her loving husband, Andrew Lynn Swallows; her daughters, Linda Moreland (Doug), Kathy Swallows, and Karen Swallows-Williams (David); cherished grandchildren, Shannon Cucksey (John), Veronica Williams (Adam Pallin), and Alexandra Williams; beloved great-grandchildren, AJ and Gia Cucksey and Vadin Mieir-Cucksey; brother, Carl Davis Voss (Pat); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Liz Swallows leaves us with a treasured legacy of compassion, love and faith.  As a true Southern Lady, she consistently showered others with genuine kindness and love. Her most common ending to a conversation was to tell the other person of her love for them. Even as she lay in her hospital bed, with her physical strength waning, she reminded her husband to call members of their church for the sake of encouraging them. Ever thoughtful, Liz lovingly nurtured others within her circle of influence. Professionally, Liz worked as a secretary for the Board of Realtors compiling the monthly MLS listings. Personally, she added her perspective to conversations in gentle ways that resulted in leading others to a deeper understanding of life, scripture and current events. Her comments added depth and richness to a discussion, while instilling a quiet and reassuring presence of wisdom, wit and kindness.

 Liz has been the beloved wife and partner of Lynn for sixty-six years. Their first encounter resulted in her invitation for him to join her at a singles activity with her church in Miami, FL. He responded to her invite which ultimately began their lifetime journey as a couple, raising a family, enjoying travel and fishing, and ministering to others. Lynn’s name is seldom heard without her name accompanying his, for the two were truly joined as one. Lynn and Liz raised three daughters whose families will miss her maternal love, warmth and friendship, down-to-earth advice and support and stories and recollections.

Her surviving family members will deeply miss her presence, though they can look to memories of her for a beautiful illustration of how to show love for one another, grace to those you meet and wisdom in choices and perspective.

 Liz has been an inspiring example of generosity, thoughtfulness and wisdom. In living a faithful Christian life, she modeled godliness in refreshing and gentle ways. Those of us who have known and loved her declare her to be a victorious woman of God who will eagerly accept the crown of righteousness prepared for her by the Lord she wholeheartedly served.

“An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.”  Proverbs 31: 10-12
