Ellis Carl Roberson, 75, of Kingsport, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2025 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Ellis was born July 7, 1949 in Harlan, KY. He started working at a young age on a farm – bushhogging and working with hay and tobacco, then worked for Eastman and went on to work as a bus driver for over 40 years. Ellis enjoyed fishing, going to the flea market to sell, his Monday trips to Goodwill with his grandsons and spending time with his family. Ellis was musically talented; he was able to play the guitar, banjo and several other instruments. He was a member of Chimney Top Freewill Baptist Church, where he preached for the congregation. He preached at several churches; starting his journey at Long Island UMC. He loved to spread the word of the Lord. Ellis was a family man who meant the world to his loved ones. His presence will be deeply missed.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Roberson and Dora May Lark Roberson; brothers, Preston Roberson, Jimmy Roberson and Bobby Roberson.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Bernard Roberson; daughters, Melissa Williams (Jonathan), Michelle Nelson (Craig), Starlina Tunnell, Helen Rochester, Marie Morrison; sons, Charles “Chuckey” Roberson, Gerald Bernard; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Garnetta Dennison (Jimmy); sister-in-law, Peggy Roberson; special nephew, Allen Roberson; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 11:00am – 12:30pm at Chimney Top Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30pm with Preston Patrick officiating.
Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Roberson, Shawn Nelson, Jeff Nelson, Austin Williams, Andrew Williams, Tommy Williams, Tyler Gilliam, Logan Stroad, Jonathan Malone, Willie Nelson and Waylon Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport to help the family with the funeral expenses.
