Emily Camp Gaude

Emily Camp Gaude July 19, 1945 – August 27, 2026

Emily Camp Gaude, 81, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with her children by her side.

Emily was born on July 19, 1945, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the only child of William Mallory Camp and Gladys Isbell Camp. She grew up steeped in faith and family at Fourth Presbyterian Church, and later attended the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority.

Emily went on to build a decades-long career as a beloved educator in Knox County Schools, where she taught mathematics and served for 25 years as Gresham Middle School's Mathematics Department Chair. She later served as a Mathematics Consultant with the Tennessee Department of Education and helped lead a teachers' workshop at Princeton University. Her excellence in the classroom earned her numerous honors, including Tennessee State Teacher of the Year and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.

Emily never met a stranger, and everyone she taught, worked with, or simply crossed paths with knew they'd been loved on. For many years she also made handmade greeting cards for family and friends — if you were ever lucky enough to receive an "Emily Gaude original," you know exactly how much care and thought she put into every single one.

Above all, Emily's life was anchored in her faith. She was ordained a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, where she was an active and beloved member. Her devotion to God guided every part of her life, from raising her children to caring for her grandchildren, whom she adored without measure.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, William Mallory Camp and Gladys Isbell Camp, along with several beloved aunts and uncles who helped shape her faith and character.

She is survived by her children, Matthew Gaude (Cyndee), Nathan Gaude (Jessica), and Katie Gaude; and her grandchildren, Ada, Edwin, Will, Gavin, and Miles.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN on Monday, September 14th at 11:00am.
