Evelyn Boatright Adams

Evelyn Boatright Adams passed peacefully on to her heavenly home in the early morning of May 22, 2026. Born in 1943, Evelyn grew up in Kingsport enjoying her activities as a Girl Scout and as a member of the Dobyns-Bennett Madrigal Singers. Upon high school graduation she moved to Honolulu to marry and attend college at the University of Hawaii. Upon returning to the mainland she resided in Nashville and Lewisburg, TN and also in Washington D.C. prior to moving back to the Kingsport-Gray area in the 1970’s. She graduated from Steed Business School and then had a successful career in the State Farm Claims Department in Gray.

Evelyn was a Christian and a member of several Methodist congregations where she always served as a choir member sharing her beautiful gift of song. She enjoyed all genres of music, participated in line dancing groups and was an active member of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Adams; her only child, Lisa A. Shanklin; and by her parents, Robert F. and Margaret Sue Rhoton Boatright.

Evelyn is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Allen of Kingsport, and Linda and Tommy Williams of Sarasota, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Sherry Boatright of Ft. Blackmore, VA; five nieces; one nephew; seven great-nieces; and five great-nephews.

Evelyn’s family is very appreciative of the care extended to her by NCH Kingsport, Brookdale Kingsport, and Gentiva Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 4-5 :00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 5 :00 p.m. with Dr. Steve J. Collins officiating.
