Franklin “ Lane “ Thompson, 92, of Blountville, went to be with the Lord Sunday December 7th, 2025.
Born in East Tennessee, he has lived in this area most of his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and for with the Army National Guard for 8 years. He retired from Holston Defense after many years of service. Lane and his little wife, Mary, also loved working outside, especially growing vegetables and flowers to take to various markets in the area. He was a devoted member of Sunnyside Baptist Church. His gentle spirit and love will be forever treasured by many.
In addition to his parents, Miller and Treola Thompson, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Fleenor and Kathleen Smith; three brothers, J.D., J.R. and Samuel “Bud” Thompson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Emma Thompson, several nieces and nephews; three sisters in law, Leona Gibson, Judy Pope and Darlene Garrett (Charlie); brother in law, Ardeen Willen; special niece, Cathy Hubbard.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am till 12:00pm Friday December 12, 2025 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A committal service will follow at 12:00pm with Dr. Bill Sims officiating. Military rites will be presented by the American Legion Post 3/265 and the Virginia National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, it would please the family that donations be made to Sunnyside Baptist Church c/o Building Fund 406 Cooks Valley Rd. Kingsport, Tennessee 37664.
