Frankie Shelton Wininger, age 79, of Gate City, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Frankie was raised in Yuma, Virginia and was a lifelong resident of Gate City. He graduated from Gate City High School in 1964. Following high school, Frankie began working for Bays Mountain Construction and served in the Virginia National Guard. Bays Mountain Construction was acquired by Eastman Chemical Company, where he retired after a lifelong career as an Electrician and Senior Project Representative.
Frankie has been married to the love of his life, Nancy Grizzle Wininger, since 1969. He served as President of the Gate City High School Band Boosters for four years. Frankie will be remembered as a kind, caring and giving person that always made time for others, no matter who it was.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert “Bud” and Grace Wininger; and brother, Edwin “Ed” Wininger.
Frankie is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Wininger; son, Jon Wininger and wife Briana; beloved grandson, Sawyer Wininger.
Loving, supporting family and lifelong friends include: brothers, Gary Wininger and wife Cheryl, Randall Wininger, and Tim Wininger and wife Kim; sisters-in-law, Eulene Smith and husband James, Susie McMurray and husband Daniel and Helen Turner and husband David (deceased); several nieces and nephews; and special friends, John and Karen Cox and Charlie and Jane Clark.
A graveside service will take place at 1pm on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Reverend David Hood officiating and The Hood Family singing.
