Gary D. Wininger,75, of Surgoinsville, went to be with The Lord and to join his beloved wife, Cheryl, in heaven, on Wednesday, December 23, 2025.
Gary was a graduate of Gate City High School and immediately went to work for Eastman Chemical Company in the CE division. He was drafted into the Air Force in 1970 where he was stationed at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, FL. Gary was a jet engine mechanic, working on jets that were flown in the Vietnam war. Upon his return to civilian life, he regained his position with Eastman and went on to retire in 2001 after many faithful years of service.
Gary enjoyed spending time fishing and working in his shop as he was quite the craftsman. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the UT Vols, he could always be found with a game on the TV. Gary was an active member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 32 and a half years, Cheryl Wininger and brothers, Ed Wininger, Frankie Wininger and Randall Wininger.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Heather Wininger; sons, Travis Wininger and Tony Wininger (Celia); brother, Tim Wininger (Kim); four grandchildren, Anna, Emma, Hope and Madison, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Blountville. A service will take place at 3:00pm with Pastor Dustin Jessee officiating. Entombment will follow at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park Mausoleum.
