Gladys J. Smith

Gladys J. Smith, 86 of Kingsport, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 17, 2023, following an extended period of declining health. She was born in Surgoinsville and has been a resident of Kingsport since 1956. Gladys worked at Eastman in food services.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cale and Nellie Gilliam; husband of 54 years, Dewey Smith; sisters, Maxie Casteel, Ada Wilson, Lena Greer, Mamie Clifton, Esta Buttry; brothers, Sam Gilliam, Guy Gilliam, Ed Gilliam, John Gilliam; and close friend, Bobbie Smith.

Gladys is survived by her sons, Gregory Smith and wife Sharon, and Dennis Smith and special friend Kim McMurray; one grandson, Matthew Smith and wife Laura; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Sawyer; two sisters, Rachel Ryans and Ruby Mabe; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. with the Minister Team of Christian Life Center officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park (formerly East Tennessee Cemetery).

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
