Hazel Ann Droke Gross

November 4, 1933 – June 4, 2025

Hazel Ann Droke Gross, known fondly as Ann, was born and raised in Blountville, Tennessee, where she lived a life enriched by strong community ties. A lifelong resident, Ann graduated from Blountville High School and furthered her education at East Tennessee State University, laying the foundation for a bright career and a life filled with service.

Ann dedicated her professional life to excellence as a Certified Professional Secretary. Through her work with respected organizations such as General Shale, Electrolux, and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, she shared her expertise and spirit, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her in the workplace.

A devout member of Blountville United Methodist Church, Ann’s faith and commitment were the hallmarks of her existence. Her extraordinary first soprano voice graced the church choir, capturing hearts and ears of all who heard her sing. Beyond her musical gift, she was actively engaged in the church’s kitchen crew and United Methodist Women, serving her community with enthusiasm.

Ann was preceded in death by her dear parents, Hugh and Iva Droke; her husband, William H. Gross; her nephew, Michael Droke; her brother-in-law, Dr. M. Joe Hardwick; and her brother, Edgar “Bud” Droke.

She is survived by her sister, Martha S. Hardwick; her sister-in-law, Linda Droke; and her nieces and nephews—Holly (Lloyd) Davis, Brett (Sabrina) Steel, Shannon (Wayne) Jones, Mark (Emily) Droke, and Laura (Wayne) Durbin—as well as several great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate teams at The Blake of Kingsport, Gentiva Hospice, and Care Central, whose kindness and professionalism ensured that Ann was treated with grace and dignity throughout her final journey.

In honoring Ann’s memory, the family will celebrate her life in private. They invite all who remember her to find their own special way of paying tribute.
