Helen G. Elam, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in Kingsport, TN. Born on March 24, 1942, in Kingsport, Helen was the cherished daughter of the late Roscoe and Matilee Elam.
Helen dedicated her life to sharing her love of music with children, teaching elementary school music for over 30 years. She was known for her elaborate music programs and exceptional musical abilities, which brought joy to many throughout her life. Helen was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church, where she helped with the children’s music program. Helen’s warmth, spirit and beautiful musical contributions will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Although she did not have children of her own, she touched countless number of lives through her generous, Christian spirit!
Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Len Elam, Ray Elam; and sister, Judy Sells.
Survivors include her sister, Doris Bowyer; brothers, Tom Elam, Phil Elam (Beverly), Larry Elam (Martha), Leo Elam (Marsha); and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nursing home, Asbury Place on Netherland Inn Road for the special care they provided for Helen.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kim Isley-Selby officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park, with nephews serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vermont United Methodist Church, 1817 Bloomingdale Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660.
