Homer Elmer Smith, 82, passed away peacefully after recently returning to his birthplace of Kingsport, TN. A man of quiet strength and a gentle spirit, Homer was known by all as kind and soft-spoken.
Homer spent much of his life working with his hands, having mastered the operation of heavy equipment. He took great pride in the art of building and construction, leaving a tangible legacy through the projects he helped create.
For ten years, Homer lived happily in New Castle, PA, with his beloved wife, Catherine. They were inseparable, finding joy in the simple things—camping under the stars and taking long drives through the countryside near their home. In his later years, Homer embraced technology as a way to stay close to those he loved spending much of his time reconnecting with old friends and family on Facebook.
Home is now reunited with Catherine, as well as his parents, Thomas Guy Smith and Elsie Harris Smith; his stepfather, Herbert Harris; his brother, Charles Richard Smith; and his sister, Charmie Lane.
He is survived by his children, Janice Mullinax, Thomas Smith, and Homer Smith; his stepdaughter, Ashley Usselman; and his brothers, Orville L. Smith and Thomas E. Smith.
In accordance with Homer’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. His family encourages those who knew him to honor his memory by sharing a kind word or a favorite story online, just as he loved to do.
