Iva Marie Carter

Iva Marie Carter, 85, of Mount Carmel, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Monday evening, July 14, 2025. Born and raised in this area and graduated from Church Hill High School. Marie married the love of her life after three months of dating and was happily married for 60+ years. They lived all across the country while James was in the U.S. Airforce and ultimately settled back down in Kingsport. She was an interpreter for the deaf for over 30 years, working with students across several school systems. Marie was an active and faithful member of Stateline Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed every second she spent with them. Marie also enjoyed traveling all across the country; especially loved Charleston, SC.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Carter; parents, Paul and Mary Rowlett; and siblings, Joyce Wright, Gary Rowlett and Donnie Rowlett.

Survivors include her children, Jimmy Carter, David Carter (Debby), Douglas Carter, Melissa Barnette (Doug); grandchildren, Brittany Stoops (Cliff), Brandon Carter, Stephanie Carter (Craig), Amellia Crawford (Cody), Alec Carter (Ashley), Sarah Carter, Zachary Barnette (Jenny Kate); great-grandchildren, MaKenzie Owens, Hunter Shepherd, Rhiannon Crawford, Layla Crawford, Hazel Carter; siblings, Jimmy Rowlett, Paula Rutherford, Mike Rowlett (Teresa); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to send special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for the loving care provided to Marie.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Stateline Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Wayne Morelock officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Shepherd, Zach Barnette, Craig Owens, Brandon Carter, Alec Carter and Cliff Stoops.
