James "Jim" Brooks, Jr.

James (Jim) Brooks, age 84, went to be with Jesus on May 10, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

James was born in Kingsport and spent his formative years on Long Island. He graduated from Sullivan High School and became an auto technician. He worked in two different church ministries as a bus mechanic for several years. Later he worked for Kingsport City Schools as a bus driver and was proud that he was never late. He retired from driving in 2022. James was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church on Bloomingdale Road.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Pearl and James Brooks Sr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Shirlene; his three children, Jamene Brooks-Kieffer, James Brooks, III, Jodie Brooks; three granddaughters; brothers, Jonathan Brooks, Ricky Brooks; sisters, Nancy Riddle, Patricia Collins, Joan Tolley, Naomi Rubley; and multiple nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses from Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
