James "Jim" Preston Lample, Jr.

James “Jim” Preston Lample, Jr., of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the V.A. Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he lived in the Maryland area most of his life. Jim proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Jim also was a flight instructor for many years and a custom home builder through his company, Bay Shore Homes. In his spare time, Jim was avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Lample was preceded in death by his parents, James Preston Lample, Sr. and Anna Miller Lample and sister, Carol Newton. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 60 years, Sylvia Lample; daughter, Sharon Gabler; son, James Lample and wife Lorie; grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley, Johnny and Nick; and great-grandchildren, Alahna, Dominic, Roman and Cayden.

The family will receive friends from 10:30am to 11:30am, Friday, June 26, 2026, in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2630 Highway 75, Blountville, Tennessee, with a service to follow officiated by Pastor Mike Carrier. Burial will follow in the Garden of Avenue Of Flags with military rites presented by American Legion Post #3/265.
